The world's heaviest pumpkin just became the world's heaviest jack-o'-lantern — 3,156 pounds of Halloween

Ron Wallace's pumpkin weighed 3,156 lb (1,431.5 kg) when it took the all-time heaviest-pumpkin title earlier this month — the first fruit of any kind to pass 3,000 pounds. This week in Salem, Massachusetts, five carvers spent 32 hours turning it into a jack-o'-lantern complete with flying bats, a knobbly-nosed witch and a giant skeleton, lit from within. A Guinness adjudicator confirmed it still weighed the full 3,156 pounds after carving — a new record for the heaviest jack-o'-lantern ever. After Halloween it gets one final job: pig feed at a New Hampshire farm.

The upbeat factorone very determined gardener, 32 hours of carving, and a pumpkin that ends its record run as dinner.
