Three capybara pups at Edinburgh Zoo — and big brother Bru is not quite sure
Staff at Edinburgh Zoo spotted them on the morning of 28 October: three newborn capybara pups, born overnight to parents Luna and Rodney, already exploring their home while staying close to their mum. The pups — capybaras are the world's largest rodents — will have their first health check in the coming weeks, when keepers will learn their sexes and choose names. Their big brother Bru, born in May, was the first capybara born in Scotland in 18 years and an internet sensation in his own right. 'The triplets are adorable,' said Darren McGarry, the zoo's head of animal care. 'Bru is adjusting to no longer being the centre of attention. He is a little grumpy for now, but we are sure he will be best buds with his siblings once he settles.' According to McGarry, capybara family life is pure soap opera: aunt Cali rules the roost, Rodney is the shy one, and Bru remains the golden child — for a few more days, at least.
