Tracking 99 jaguars draws the map that could keep them connected
A jaguar alone in a shrinking forest fragment is a dead end; jaguars that can move between habitats are a living species. Researchers fitted GPS data from 99 jaguars across the Americas to map the corridors the cats actually need, highlighting the Amazon–Pantanal corridor in Brazil, a bi-national corridor in Honduras and Guatemala, and Colombia's A2O corridor as priorities. Many of these routes cross unprotected land — which is precisely why the map matters: you cannot protect a corridor you haven't drawn.
