Two finals, two trophies, 39 minutes each: Sindhu and Lakshya give India a double crown in Germany
Indian badminton had a Sunday to remember in Saarbrücken. At the HYLO Open, a BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament, PV Sindhu beat Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjarsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in 39 minutes — without dropping a single game all week — to become the first Indian woman to win the tournament. Lakshya Sen then matched her minute for minute, overpowering Indonesia's Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 in another 39-minute final for his first title of the season and his second HYLO crown. It is the first time in four years that two Indian players have won singles titles at the same World Tour event at Super 500 level or above. One tournament, two podiums, and a clean sweep of the singles.
The upbeat factora double crown four years in the making — two champions, zero games dropped by one of them.
