Two typhoon-battered neighbours will now rehearse the rescue together
The Philippines and Vietnam sit in the same typhoon corridor — storms often cross one country before reaching the other. This week their defence ministers agreed to turn that shared exposure into shared preparation: a 'Project Typhoon Mitigation' that will develop a joint protocol for disaster relief coordination, early detection and warning, and pre-positioning relief supplies where they will be needed. The plan, agreed on the sidelines of the ASEAN defence ministers' meeting in Cebu and open to other countries joining, will be firmed up at talks in early 2027.
The upbeat factortwo neighbours who cannot move out of the storm's path have decided to face it side by side — prepared, not just hopeful.
