£20.4 billion (about $27.3 billion) of new firepower for Britain's builders, green energy and AI — through its own two banks
Britain's finance minister John Healey will use Wednesday's budget to add £20.4 billion (about $27.3 billion) of capital to the state's two investment lenders: £15.4 billion (about $20.6 billion) more for the National Wealth Fund and £5 billion (about $6.7 billion) for the British Business Bank, the Treasury confirmed. The capital is meant to flow over roughly five years into industries, infrastructure and places that create good jobs — the Treasury estimates support for around 100,000 jobs by 2035 across artificial intelligence, defence and green energy — lending patient public money where private finance hesitates.
