A gentler transplant drug kept kidneys working better — and patients feeling better
For people living with a transplanted kidney, the standard anti-rejection drug can itself strain the organ it protects. In the Phase 2 BESTOW trial, a new antibody treatment called tegoprubart preserved kidney function better than the standard tacrolimus — function held steadier from the first month and was significantly better at 18 months — and patients reported greater improvements in quality of life across all five measured areas at one year. The findings, from 127 transplant recipients, were presented at ASN Kidney Week 2026.
