A ready-made injection kept myeloma at bay longer than three standard regimens
For people with multiple myeloma whose cancer has returned after standard treatment, options narrow quickly. Pfizer reports that in the phase 3 MagnetisMM-32 study, its treatment ELREXFIO — an off-the-shelf, fixed-dose injection, meaning no custom manufacturing per patient — beat a benchmark of three established standard regimens on progression-free survival, the time before the disease advances. Median time without progression reached 32.9 months on ELREXFIO against 11.6 months on standard care, and 81.8% of patients responded to treatment against 32.8% on the standard regimens, and its safety profile matched what doctors already knew, with no new signals. The company plans to submit the data to health authorities worldwide and publish detailed results. For patients, the plain meaning is more time before the cancer moves again.
