A stranger added premium beef to their order, paid the 600,000 won (about $420) bill for 27 diners — and left
A group of 27 — disabled residents and staff from the Jemulpo-gu Hanmaum Community Welfare Center in Incheon, South Korea — had spent a joyful morning touring Cheongna Lake Park when they stopped for a barbecue lunch. When volunteer Kim went to pay, the bill had grown from 410,000 won to 600,000 won (about $420) — and it had already been settled. Another diner, who had just left, had quietly added more than $100 worth of premium beef to the group's order, paid for everything, and walked out without giving a name. All staff could learn was that the stranger wanted to do something meaningful after seeing the welfare-centre group come in, and had been living in Hawaii. 'It was disappointing that we could not even learn the name of the person who did this,' Kim told Yonhap News Agency. The thanks, instead, is being passed on in the telling.
