A toy in the trolley: a snack maker's holiday campaign turns purchases into gifts for children

From now until 20 December, buying a packet of OREO, Ritz, Cadbury or Toblerone in Canada does a little extra work. Mondelēz Canada has teamed up with The Salvation Army on 'Share the Joy, Donate a Toy': a portion of proceeds from participating products will fund up to $150,000 in toys for children in need, distributed to families in more than 400 communities across the country. 'For families already struggling to make ends meet, Christmas can bring another set of impossible choices,' said Glenn van Gulik of The Salvation Army Canada. The campaign turns the most ordinary act of the season — the weekly shop — into a gift a child somewhere in Canada will unwrap.

The upbeat factor400 communities, one simple mechanism — the groceries you were buying anyway become a child's Christmas morning.
