An early cancer drug showed durable responses — in patients who had already tried many treatments

At the ESMO congress in Madrid, MacroGenics reported early Phase 1 results for MGC026, a targeted cancer drug, in people with advanced cancers who had already been through a median of four earlier treatments. Among those on higher doses, 29% saw tumours respond, with responses lasting a median of 10.2 months, and no one with head-and-neck cancer in the expansion group stopped treatment because of side effects. It is early data, and larger trials must confirm it — but durable responses at this stage are a hopeful sign.

The upbeat factoreven after many treatments failed, some tumours still answered.
