At COP17, the Asian Development Bank put $50 million of bonds behind nature itself
At the biodiversity COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia, Asian Development Bank president Masato Kanda announced a three-year Biodiversity and Nature Theme Bond of about $50 million, arranged by Crédit Agricole CIB, to finance ecosystem conservation, restoration and nature-based solutions across agriculture, water, coastal resilience and cities. Alongside it, the bank launched a Nature Bond Incubator under its Nature Solutions Finance Hub, which aims to generate at least $5 billion in nature financing by 2030. The incubator builds on ADB's support for Thailand's $750 million sustainability-linked bond in September — the first sovereign bond in Asia and the Pacific carrying a nature-conservation target. Nature has always been infrastructure; finance is finally learning to price it that way.
