Chile banks the sunshine: $286 million for solar, wind and batteries that work after dark
Chile is building the second half of a solar day. Qualitas Energy has secured $286 million in green financing for a portfolio combining 66 MW of run-of-river hydropower, a 154 MWp solar project paired with 840 MWh of battery storage, and 39 MW of onshore wind — enough stored energy to keep homes lit long after sunset. The solar, wind and storage projects are under construction and due to enter commercial operation in 2028, backed by long-term power purchase agreements, with financing from BNP Paribas and Banco Santander. Sunshine, stored, is what turns a sunny desert into round-the-clock clean power.
