Down 0-6, Manisha Bhanwala wrestled back to become India's first woman world champion

In Astana, Kazakhstan, 29-year-old Manisha Bhanwala of Haryana trailed American Abigail Nette 0-6 in the women's 59kg freestyle final at the Senior World Wrestling Championships — and then refused to lose. Point by point she clawed back to 6-6, landed one more takedown, and held on to win 8-6, becoming the first Indian woman ever to win a senior world wrestling title. It fulfilled a dream her father had carried for her since her childhood in Siwaha village in Jind district.

The upbeat factorsix points down on the biggest stage of her life, she simply started again — and made history.
