Four more years of readiness: the UK renews its mpox and smallpox vaccine supply
Preparedness is the good news you hope never makes headlines. In Copenhagen on 2 November, Bavarian Nordic announced a new four-year contract from the UK Health Security Agency to supply MVA-BN, the only non-replicating vaccine approved for preventing mpox and smallpox in the UK, Europe, the USA and several other regions. Scheduled deliveries across the four years keep the UK's stockpile ready for outbreaks before they start — the kind of quiet, advance work that decides whether a future outbreak stays a footnote.
The upbeat factorno emergency, no scramble — just a country quietly making sure the vaccine shelf is full for four more years.
