In Uzbekistan, preschool places went from 27% of children to 78% in nine years

Nine years ago, barely a quarter of Uzbekistan's young children had a preschool place. Today it is 78% — one of the quiet education transformations shared at a UN-backed summit in Samarkand on investing in children's wellbeing, organised with UNICEF, the World Health Organization and the World Bank. More than 10,000 children with disabilities now attend mainstream schools in the country, and about 1.5 million families receive social assistance, as the share of children living in monetary poverty has fallen significantly.
