India adds a record 55.29 gigawatts of clean power in a single year
India has recorded its highest-ever annual addition of non-fossil power capacity, adding 55.29 gigawatts in one financial year and taking its total non-fossil capacity to 283.46 gigawatts. Solar did most of the lifting, contributing 44.61 gigawatts, with wind adding 6.05 gigawatts. On one day in July 2025, renewable energy met 51.5 percent of the country's peak electricity demand of 203 gigawatts — a record share — and India reached 50 percent non-fossil installed capacity in June 2025, well ahead of its 2030 target.
The upbeat factora country of 1.4 billion people hit its halfway-to-clean-capacity milestone five years early.
