Kenya now draws 51 percent of all climate-tech funding in Africa — a decade of builders made it the continent's green workshop

A new report from research firm Briter, The State of ClimateTech in Africa 2.0, finds that Kenya attracted 51.3 percent of all climate-technology funding deployed across Africa between 2016 and 2025 — well ahead of Nigeria at 12.9 percent and South Africa at 12 percent. The three markets together took about 76 percent of the money, while a widening circle of countries including Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Senegal recorded growing deal activity at smaller sizes. The report also counts 206 disclosed exits between 2018 and 2026, a sign the sector is maturing from experiments into companies that endure. One gap persists: founding teams of only women received less than one percent of the funding.

The upbeat factorthe continent's climate solutions are increasingly financed where the climate challenge is lived — in Nairobi first, and in more African capitals every year.
