Nashville's public schools just posted their highest graduation rate ever: 86.4 percent
Twenty years ago, fewer than seven in ten Nashville public-school students graduated. This year Metro Nashville Public Schools reached 86.4 percent — the district's highest rate on record, its third record in three years. The sharpest gains came where they matter most: Maplewood High School jumped from 71.2 to 88.3 percent in a single year, and Glencliff High School climbed from 61.5 to 80.8 percent. Records like this are not made by a policy memo; they are made student by student, counsellor by counsellor, in schools where finishing is becoming the expectation rather than the exception.
The upbeat factora big-city district where graduation is now the norm — including in the schools that once struggled most.
