Nigeria's surgeons can now learn robotic surgery at home — at the country's first academy for it
For a young Nigerian surgeon, learning robotic surgery used to mean finding a way abroad. In Redemption City, Ogun State, Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa has opened the Redeemer's Health Village Robotic Surgery Academy — Nigeria's first — built with RoboMed Global, the National Postgraduate Medical College and Redeemer's University. Qualified doctors will get sponsorship to attend through the national TETFund scheme, and the government says ₦250 billion (about $165 million) has gone into medical education over two years, with annual medical and nursing admissions set to rise toward 20,000.
The upbeat factorworld-class surgical skill, learned at home instead of lost to a one-way ticket.
