On his Games debut, Sandeep ran a world record — and took India past 100 medals

Sandeep had never raced at an Asian Para Games before. In Nagoya on Friday, the Indian para-athlete won gold in the men's 400m in 52.28 seconds, setting a new T44 world record — beating the previous mark by more than half a second — while compatriot Ajay Kumar took bronze in 53.61 seconds. The two medals carried India past a landmark: 100 medals at the 2026 Asian Para Games, with 25 gold, 32 silver and 43 bronze at that point, and the country's best-ever haul of 111 now within reach. Moments later, teammate Haney added another world-record gold, throwing the javelin 60.49 metres.

The upbeat factora debut, a world record, and a century of medals — all in one race.
