Rooftop sunshine for spinning mills: a 6.13 MWp solar deal in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's textile mills run day and night — and one of them is about to run partly on its own roof. Fakir Technologies has signed an agreement with FKL Spinning Mills to build a 6.13-megawatt-peak rooftop solar plant, expected to generate about 8,238 megawatt-hours of electricity in its first year and avoid roughly 5,520 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. For an industry that powers a nation's exports, rooftop solar trims both the electricity bill and the footprint of every T-shirt the mill helps produce.

The upbeat factorthe factory roof becomes the factory's power plant — 5,520 tonnes of emissions avoided before a single extra acre is used.
