Seventy-two surfers paddled out in Sydney today — every wave for the dementia researchers

Wipeout Dementia filled the URBNSURF wave pool in Sydney with 72 surfers raising funds for the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing at UNSW Sydney. Many were surfing for family: captain Craig Rodgers described his mother moving into residential care after increasing isolation and five falls in six months. Professor Henry Brodaty, the centre's co-director, noted dementia is now Australia's leading cause of death, but added that research is changing what is possible — from reducing risk across a lifetime to earlier diagnosis and better care.

The upbeat factorgrief and love, converted into laps of a wave pool and money for the scientists working on answers.
