She was hiding in a museum drawer: a long-clawed dinosaur, the first of her kind in Europe

Sometimes a discovery needs no expedition — just a second look. Re-examining fossils from the Isle of Wight held in museum collections, researchers have identified a new megaraptoran dinosaur, Invictibellatrix — 'unconquered female warrior of the amber' — a long-clawed predator from the Lower Cretaceous and the first of its kind identified in Europe, described in Royal Society Open Science. Megaraptorans are still mysterious: scientists do not know exactly when the group evolved, and this specimen, found simply by looking again at what was already collected, adds real clues.

The upbeat factora brand-new dinosaur, discovered not in a desert but in a drawer — by looking twice.
