The state of Illinois just honoured the Rockford team that helps seniors live with dignity

For the staff of Lifescape Community Services in Rockford, Illinois, the work is unglamorous and essential: helping older adults navigate benefits, services and a fast-changing modern world across 11 counties in northern Illinois. On October 26, the Illinois Department on Aging presented Lifescape with the Governor's Engaging Aging Award, an honour given to at most 13 community organisations a year statewide — this year, only five received it. Lifescape serves adults over 60, alongside adults aged 18 to 59 with disabilities. 'It feels good to win awards and be recognized for the work that we do,' said chief executive Mike Hughes. 'We're pretty proud of the amount of clients we have, and what we do to help our clients live a life of dignity every day.'

The upbeat factorone of only five honourees in the whole state — for the everyday, dignity-preserving work of helping seniors stay independent.
