Three capybara pups at Edinburgh Zoo, and one very grumpy big brother
Keepers at Edinburgh Zoo arrived on Wednesday morning to find three new capybara pups, born overnight to parents Luna and Rodney and already exploring — staying close to mum, as pups do. The triplets are doing well; their first health check in the coming weeks will reveal their sexes and earn them their names. They have a tough act to follow. Their big brother Bru, born in May, was the first capybara born in Scotland in 18 years and promptly became an internet sensation. Head of animal care Darren McGarry reports that Bru 'is adjusting to no longer being the centre of attention. He is a little grumpy for now but we are sure he will be best buds with his siblings once he settles.' As for the adults, McGarry warns that capybaras — the world's largest rodents — live lives 'like something from a soap opera': Cali rules the roost, Luna does as she is told, and Rodney, the shy one, is 'clearly a hit with the ladies.'
