Volunteers dove into floodwater in Argentina to bring the animals out
When the Paraná River flooded in Argentina's Chaco region and some 2,200 people evacuated, the animals could not leave on their own. Volunteers went into the rising water after them — leading out horses, coaxing cattle to higher ground and carrying wildlife to safety, animal by animal. Flood rescues are usually counted in people, and rightly so. This one was also counted in every horse, cow and wild creature that somebody refused to leave behind.
The upbeat factorwhen the water rose, nobody in Chaco drew the line at helping only humans.
