Spin a single molecule, and the electric current flows easier — an IIT Madras researcher helped show how

At the smallest scale imaginable, motion and electricity turn out to be dance partners. Anil Kumar Singh, an assistant professor at IIT Madras, is a lead experimental contributor to an international study published in Nature showing that an electric current can set a single molecule rotating — and that the rotation, in turn, helps electrons pass through more easily. It is fundamental science today, and a clue for tomorrow's nanoscale electronics, whose behaviour could be tuned by movement itself.

The upbeat factorat the atomic scale, even a spin can open a door.
