The UK's first dedicated stem cell collection centre has welcomed its first donors
At Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, 26-year-old Brendon Craister from Telford was among the first people to donate stem cells at the UK's first dedicated cell collection centre, opened by the charity Anthony Nolan with Nottingham University Hospitals. The centre adds 1,300 donation slots a year at a time when a global shortage of facilities can delay lifesaving transplants for people with blood cancer and blood disorders. Craister signed up to the register on Christmas Eve, doing last-minute shopping — and has now given a stranger more time with the people they love.
The upbeat factora split-second decision at a Christmas checkout became cells that could save a life.
