Three districts, one promise: Bauchi rallies its leaders before polio vaccination day
In Alkaleri, Bauchi State, the meeting came before the medicine. WHO representative Abdullahi Musa sat down with traditional leaders, religious leaders, school heads and parents to ask for their help ahead of a polio immunisation exercise on 7 November covering Alkaleri, Misau and Darazo districts. The vaccine is for children from birth to five years old, and the ask was simple: spread the word, open doors, and make sure no child is missed because nobody told their family. In places where trust travels by word of mouth, a room full of local leaders can be worth as much as a cold box full of vaccine.
The upbeat factorbefore a single dose is given, a community is being asked — and is agreeing — to carry it together.
